We worked really hard. We worked diligently for months. We analyzed and re-worked our T-shirt designs. We did not take the design, the inspiration, the affirmation lightly. We wanted to convey a positive message and an integrated theme in each and every design. We started with our Top 10 but have 90 more T-shirt designs in the works.
There is a certain pleasure in recognizing something that has been well made. Good design is about using materials and visuals that are fit for purpose. The product has to be aesthetically pleasing, has to be functional and if it has extra character to it.
It is always possible to tell when someone cares about what they’re making. Carefully, we are always looking for that quality which will be thoughtfully represented by our company. The affirmation matters. The colors matter. The blend of both matter.
One reason we look for that care is because we think for someone to make something that’s going to say something important to the world, there is undoubtedly an amount of love as well as skill that goes into that. And things that last are important. We know that most people are happy to pay more for something if they see it as an investment.
We have been told that most would rather spend $100 dollars on a saucepan if it means that they’ll be buying one that lasts. We’ve always felt that about things, rather than thinking something is too expensive. We’ve noticed that the French think like that about clothes. They may have fewer but they have the best quality.
Even when many have had no money, they would save up and travel to London to buy a Cacharel shirt. It’s about knowing what you want and saving for it. Good quality design rides over to everything, though. It can be apparent in something like a cotton T-shirt that has faded well. It doesn’t always have to be expensive in order to be of great value and quality.
Most people prefer clothes that get better with age. We all know that cotton raincoats get softer, moleskin that wears in well. We should respect what it takes to produce something that is of a quality to last.
Hand in hand with good manufacture is having an edited approach to design. In design, we prefer to get something right rather than the more commercial attitude of doing it in lots of different colors. We really don’t like that thing of going and buying very cheap clothes and throwing them away.
Persuading people to this viewpoint isn’t hard when you can actually get them to experience good design.
